After the underdogs Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday in 4 games they were now waiting to see who their next opponent, would it ended up being the Houston Astros after beating the White Sox in 4 games in which appeared the team in Wind City didn’t stood a chance in any of their games against a stacked lineup.
Series starts this Friday October 15th at Minute Maid Park, for the first 3 games with the first game of this series starting at 8:07 ET with probable starters being Nathan Eovaldi(3.60 ERA) for Boston and Framber Valdez(8.31 ERA) for the Astros.
Both teams were known for their offense in the regular season and both let everyone know that they’re still dangerous in this postseason with Boston averaging 6.1 runs per game and the Astros with 8.2 per game pitching side it’s known that it wasn’t Boston strength especially on starters this season but since the start of the postseason Boston bullpen owns a team ERA of 2.98.
Houston Astros’ main key to take this series will depend on how heavily their stacked lineup can punish Boston’ starters which they own a 8.11 ERA in the series against Tampa before they see their bullpen that has been the strength for this Red Sox for now.
Both teams faced each other 7 times this year, Houston won the series with a record of 5-2 while averaging 6 runs per game and Boston 3.6 it was clear that the team from Texas was superior, it’s expected to see the Astros as the favorites in this series with experienced manager Dusty Baker against also experienced in postseason Alex cora.
Key Players for this Series
For the Red Sox the trio of Devers, Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez are expected to produce the most damage in this lineup with the help of hot bat Kiké Hernandez (1.329 ops) and get the best from Nathan Eovaldi, Tanner Houck and Eduardo Rodriguez from the bullpen Boston can rely on Nick Pivetta and Whitlock to hold any possible lead that Red Sox will have in this series against Houston.
For the Astros their 1 – 9 spots in the lineups are dangerous with 2 players under .700 ops being surprisingly Yuli Gurriel one of them the other being Martin Maldonado who is well known for his offense; kidding, the dangerous bats of Altuve, Correa, Alvarez and Bregman all own an ops at least over .800 and ace starting pitcher Lance McCullers to give QS for the Astros against Boston with his 0.84 ERA in 2 starts this year.
I don’t see Boston pitching capable of limiting the damage against the Astros, especially the starters. The White Sox had a better pitching staff and they didn’t stand a chance against them. I can see the Astros taking this series in 5 games at Fenway with Yordan Alvarez being the series MVP.
