Arkansas Razorbacks Top College Poll
Last week the Arkansas Razorbacks baseball team was anointed the #1 spot in the NCAA Baseball Poll. It is the first time in school history they attained that goal. In 1998 they made it to the second spot at the final poll of the year.
This weekend they did a sweep of Murray State and will likely continue their grip on the top spot. On Sunday, at Baum-Walker Stadium, the Arkansas Razorbacks shut out their opponent with a 6-0 victory and moved their record to a perfect 10-0 to begin the season.
In 1996 they Razorbacks began the year with 18 consecutive wins.
Lael Lockhart, a graduate transfer from Houston, got things going well for the Hogs by fanning two of three in the first inning and cruised from there. He finished with allowing five hits and walking one batter. In 13 innings of work he has a 2.77 ERA and plenty of strikeouts.
The bats gave him support in the first with a sacrifice fly by Brady Slavens for the early lead. Jacob Nesbit, third baseman and a Texas native, smacked a three-run home run to left field in the fourth frame to lengthen the lead to four,
The scoring was capped off in he fifth with a sac fly from Cullen Smith and another by Jalen Battles. The game went to the bullpen and they closed it out for the Arkansas Razorbacks with stellar pen work from Ryan Costeiu, Evan Gray, Kevin Kopps, and Zack Morris all collectively allowing one hit and fanning five
Robert Moore, second baseman, lived up to his preseason all-American status with his fifth multi-hit game of the year . He now is sporting a slash line of .375/.458/.625 on the year.
The Arkansas Razorbacks and Head Coach Dave Van Horn, in his 23rd year at Arkansas, will move on the road next weekend and travel for three game against Louisiana Tech with first contest at 6 pm on Friday March 12th,
