Do the Yankees Have the Best Bullpen?

The New York Yankees have made some big moves in the offseason and have increased their pitching arsenal. Already having some of the best starting pitchers, the addition of Carlos Rodón should help.

Rodón was an ace for the San Francisco Giants, and his new role in the Yankees pinstripes should prove to help this team try and reach the World Series. Pitching a 2.88 ERA last, Rodón had a fantastic season. Rodón signed with the Yankees for a $162 million deal over 6 years.

Nestor Cortes

Cortes had an unbelievable season last year. Gaining his first ever All-Star appearance, Nasty Nestor became a fan favorite and one of the best American League pitchers. Nestor had an ERA of 2.44 which was unbelievable for the breakout season he put together. With a pitching record of 12-4 last season, his efficiency was enough to be the Yankees 2nd best pitcher.

Gerrit Cole

Cole was in great form last year and proves to still be one of the best in Baseball. Cole broke the Yankees season record for most strikeouts in a season last year. Cole’s ability to dominate in pitching has been helping his side win big games.

Cole being one of the highest-paid players in Baseball, still needs to prove his worth. He needs to step up as a leader for this team and show his full potential. The Yankees will need to rely on Cole come playoff time to really get the job done.

Luis Severino

Severino has been a big part of this bullpen for the last few seasons. He was regarded as the number two pitcher until Nestor Cortes had a breakout year last season. Severino missed a good amount of time with an injury but still proved to be an efficient pitcher when he played. Going 7-3 with a 3.18 ERA was a decent year for the time he missed.

Losing Chapman

The Yankees’ time with their lead closer, Aroldis Chapman, has come to an end. Chapman was one of the best closers in the game. After missing a good amount of time with an injury last season and a personal fallout with the team, it was time for Chapman to find a new home. Chapman signed a new deal with the Kansas City Royals.

The Yankees will really need to look to their bullpen to find the key closer for their games. Overall, the Yankees have quite a bullpen going into this coming season. This is the kind of bullpen that can close a playoff series and have the right rotation in terms of health and availability.
