Top Draft Picks Every MLB Team Will Be Drooling Over in 2023

The 2023 Major League Baseball Draft is more than six months away, but teams are already beginning to weigh up their options. As with previous years, hitters and position players dominate the upcoming draft, making up the majority of the best draft picks in 2023. Players from the Southeastern Conference also feature heavily, given the conference’s success in recent years. Here’s a look at some of the best draft picks that will be getting MLB teams drooling ahead of July’s draft.

Dylan Crews from Louisiana State

Dylan Crews is known for his power and undeniable hitting ability.

As a sophomore, the outfielder batted .349/.463/.691 and was one of the top high school prospects ahead of the 2020 Draft. However, Crews took himself out of the 2020 Draft and has seen his prospects drop slightly after a disappointing performance for the US collegiate national team, where he struck out 30% of the time and batted at .158 across his 12 games. Despite this, Crews is a hot prospect with his speed, arm, and solid stats to date in his career.

Chase Dollander from Tennessee

Chase Dollander is the only pitcher you’ll see on this list, and for good reason: He’s by far the best.

After transferring to Tennessee from Georgia Southern, Dollander was awarded the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2022. Since then, he’s been tearing it up in the Cape Cod League with his incredible right-hand pitching. With statistics of 10-0 with a 2.39 ERA and a 108/13 K/BB ratio across his 79 innings in the Southeastern Conference, it was Dollander’s fastball and slider which caught the attention of MLB scouts. With a top speed of 99 mph so far on the fastball and 91 mph on the slider, Dollander is the definition of hard-to-hit, and an asset that many MLB teams will be eager to snap up.

Jacob Gonzalez from Mississippi

This championship-winning shortstop is exactly what MLB teams will be after in the 2023 draft.

As a sophomore, Jacob Gonzalez struck 18 home runs as he led Mississippi to win their first-ever College World Series. On top of this, Gonzalez had figures of .273/.405/.558 and more walks than strikeouts across the College World Series for the Rebels. It’s exactly Gonzalez’s ability to dominate the strike zone that makes him an attractive prospect in the MLB, while his general athleticism, power, and arm strength make him a great option at shortstop.

Wyatt Langford from Florida

Another Southeastern Conference player that will be attracting big attention at the 2023 Draft in July will be Wyatt Langford of Florida.

The college star led the Southeastern Conference for home runs in 2022, even setting a new school record by smashing no less than 26 home runs in the season. His batting figures read .355/.447/.719, and many scouts are comparing the Florida native to Louisiana State’s Dylan Crews. An argument can be made that Langford is faster and more athletic, plus has a better right-handed swing than Crews, making him the most sought-after hitter in the 2023 Draft.

Jacob Wilson from Grand Canyon

There’s nothing like the excitement of a legacy player, which is exactly what the Grand Canyon’s Jacob Wilson brings.

As the son of Jack Wilson, a former big leaguer, Jacob Wilson will not need to rely on his father’s legacy in order to land an MLB contract in this year’s draft. The big hitter had an NCAA Division I leading strikeout rate of only 3%, with stats of .358/.418/.585. He also was the best hitter for the US collegiate national team.
