Five Free Agency Predictions

Five Free Agency Predictions

The MLB offseason will bring us a surplus of top players that enter free agency. Which teams will sign who? Read this article to see Trevor’s predictions for the offseason.

Rangers Break The Bank

After missing out on third baseman Anthony Rendon and other top free agents a few years back, Texas is going to spend this time around. The Rangers have loads of money after dumping Joey Gallo’s contract at the trade deadline, and I expect them to bring home three Texas natives.

Enter Clayton Kershaw, Trevor Story, and Kyle Seager. The Dodgers will struggle to sign Kershaw as they focus on locking up both Max Scherzer and Corey Seager. Kershaw may be on the back nine of his career, but the southpaw remains a marquee name that will generate fan interest in Arlington. Trevor Story and Kyle Seager both provide solid infield defense and are good for 30+ homers a year.

One of the biggest reasons Texas will go after these players is to be somewhat competitive and put fans back in their seats. The Rangers haven’t made the postseason since 2016 and it’s time they play meaningful baseball at their new park.

Marcus Semien Returns To The Bay Area

Semien is coming off the best season of his career, hitting .265/.334/.538 with 42 home runs and over 100 RBI’s. The All-Star infielder bet on himself a year prior, signing a one-year deal with Toronto, and it paid off. Semien is about to get a great contract and I believe he’ll return home to the Bay area, this time as a member of the San Francisco Giants.

The Giants have a massive hole at second base, and the combination of Tommy La Stella and Wilmer Flores isn’t good enough for a team that wants to contend for the World Series. Semien would solve that problem immediately.

Carlos Correa Stays In Houston

All I’m hearing from people is where Carlos Correa should depart Houston for this winter, but if the Astros match the best offer, why leave? The Astros have reached the ALCS four seasons in a row, and if Correa decides to stay, it’ll most likely be five. The Astros offense is loaded from the top down, and Correa has embraced being a heel and is benefiting from it.

The 26-year-old shortstop had a career year in home runs in 2021, and is seemingly feeding off the boos. Whether you want to admit it or not, the “bad guy” Astros are great for baseball. Why ruin such a good thing, Carlos?

Kris Bryant Joins Harper In Philly

Bryant and Bryce Harper played together as teenagers, and I think both Las Vegas natives are about to bring the Phillies back to the postseason for the first time since 2011. The Phillies nearly made the playoffs this year, but Joe Girardi’s team is still missing a couple pieces. Bryant can play third or the outfield, and the former MVP would make Philly a legit contender in the competitive NL East.

Castellanos Comes Back To The Motor City

The Detroit Tigers were a whole different team in the second half of the 2021 season, and have a loaded prospect pool going forward. Before you know it, the Tigers will be a force in the AL Central and I believe Nick Castellanos will be the face of it all.

Castellanos spent 2013-2019 with the Tigers, and maintains a great relationship with GM Al Avila. The outfielder is coming off his best statistical season with an OPS+ of 136, and would dramatically accelerate the Tigers rebuild.
