In his freshman year  at Odessa, he played third base for them and was named NJCAA All-American after batting .411 and swatting 17 home runs and driving in 70 runs. The next year (2020) was cut short due to COVID. In 2021, Melendez committed to Texas as a redshirt sophomore. During Melendez’s first season at Texas, he hit .319 with 13 doubles, 3 triples, 13 home runs, and driving in 51 RBI’s.

Ivan Melendez- Possible Future

He was chosen by the Miami Marlins in the 16th round but chose not to go to the professional ranks and improve his stock. It appears he has done just that. In the off-season he has worked out with some professional hitters and during the season at Texas, Melendez will go to the baseball field twice per day  to work on his craft.

Scouts have noticed an improvement in his fielding at first base with many very nice grabs of throws in the dirt and catches down the foul line. The move from third to first wasn’t particularly difficult for him.

It is apparent that Ivan Melendez has a pro baseball career ahead of him.
