An Unbreakable Slump: J-Rod is Done

J-Rod

Today, I learned that true love does not exist…

Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez have called off their engagement. This news is devastating, but it’s not surprising considering that the couple has been “working through some things” since March.

An Unbreakable Slump

The end of J-Rod is one slump that Rodriguez will never be able to bust.

On Thursday, Rodriguez and Lopez issued a joint statement to People Magazine calling quits on a relationship with Hall of Fame potential. Still, J-Rod barely spent any time in the big leagues.

“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other, and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have is to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

I do not know what to think about this statement. It’s obviously an excellent tactic to make the media believe that the breakup was not ugly, but I have one crucial question.

Are Rodriguez and Lopez really going to remain friends?

I write articles and podcast for a living, so I am not even a hair on Rodriguez’s ass. Although, we are all cut from the same cloth and I am not friends with any of my ex-girlfriends.

And do I want to be friends with any of them? HELL NO!

I do not buy the first line of this statement.

J-Rod

I was a fan of J-Rod, so I am a little bummed out about this breakup, but I think I will be able to recover by the slate of MLB games tonight.

Allegedly, Rodriguez and Lopez were trying to figure out their relationship, but they could not make it work. It seems like the difficulties from COVID-19, and their busy lives caused the collapse.

COVID-19 caused the former couple to cancel two wedding ceremonies, so J-Rod would be official if it were not for the virus.

The Saddest Thing You Will Ever See

Rodriguez confirmed the split on his Instagram story following the joint announcement on People. He tagged Lopez in a story with multiple framed pictures of the couple and their respective children.

Rodriguez had a song playing in the story, but it was not his walk-up song, “Run this Town” by Jay Z and Alicia Keys. The former three-time MVP played “Fix You” by Coldplay, the saddest song in the world.

This was not a good look by Rodriguez. The chorus is as follows.

“And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something, you can’t replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?”

A-Rod, you should be sad. I know you broke up with Jenny from the Block, and it made me upset, but I do not need to see a sappy story on Instagram. I know money cannot buy happiness, but Rodriguez is worth $350 million. He will be just fine.

Rodriguez took down the story later in the day. I do not know what was crazier. Rodriguez’s Instagram story or him slapping the ball out of Bronson Arroyo’s arm in Game 6 of the 2004 ALCS.

The MVP does not go down without a fight.

Timberwolves Time

The J-Rod split will be old news in a few days because Lopez will be focusing on making music, and Rodriguez needs to figure out how to fix the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves are the worst team in the NBA, so this will not be an easy task for the new owner.

Although, if we cannot trust A-Rod to get a ring on J-Lo’s finger, does he have any chance of getting an NBA ring with his new team.

I would say no…
