With the Atlanta Braves winning the World Series we finally wind down a long 2021 MLB season. The Braves were under .500 at the flip of the August calendar but found a way to get hot and get into the postseason. Once in the postseason, anything can happen, and we saw just that. The Braves got hot again in the playoffs and were able to make it all the way to the World Series and won it.
Who Can Restore Parity in Baseball?
Many thought that either the Dodgers or Astros would win the World Series this year and that did not happen. Both of these teams have a lot of changes undergoing in the offseason and may not be back at the form they were at this year. That opens up the floor for a few different teams to make a run at the World Series this upcoming year. I take a look at four teams below that I think have a shot to win the World Series next year.
Can the Braves Pull out a Repeat?
The Braves won the World Series for the first time since 1995 and they can definitely come through as repeat champions next season. They have Freddie Freeman hitting free agency but it is tough to see him signing anywhere but back with the Braves. They looked out of it during the fall but I think that they are going to get enough back to make another move this upcoming season.
The Dodgers are the 2022 Favorite
The Dodgers are set to lose some very critical pieces to free agency this offseason after winning the 2020 World Series and winning 106 games this past year. Players like Corey Seager, Clayton Kershaw, Max Scherzer, Kenley Jansen, among others are set to depart. The Dodgers will likely sign a few of these guys and then still have money to spend. The 2022 Dodgers lineup might look much different than it did this year but they are still heavy contenders.
The Astros Have a Great Shot to Return
The Astros will have both Zach Greinke and Justin Verlander’s contracts come off the books which is a great thing. Those two were making over 70 million combined this past year. Carlos Correa is the lone star that is not set on coming back next season. If he does return for another season then the Astros will be right in the thick of things again.
White Sox can Still put it Together
The White Sox were very close to making a run near the end of the year but they fell just short. They battled a ton of injuries this season and had that impact on their club heavily. Look for the White Sox to put it together when healthy this upcoming year. Their pitching staff should come back nicely and their offense, when healthy, is great. Look out for the White Sox next season.
