Projected Standings for 2022 in MLB

Projected Standings and this is how I see the 2022 baseball season shaking out. The factor that can’t be factored  is the totality of injuries that can affect a team. With no further words from me, here is my projected standings st the conclusion of the 2022 baseball season.

Projected Standings- American League East

Blue Jays (92-70)

Rays   (87-75)

Yankees (86-76)

Red Sox (85-77)

Orioles (71-91)

Blue Jays lineup starring Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and Teoscar Hernandez is the best in the American League also they slotted Matt Chapman into third base.  Add to that some very good pitching by adding Kevin Gausman and Yusei Kikuchi, along with a full season of Jose Berrios and Alek Manoah will help bolster the pitching staff.

projected standings

The Rays always surprise as to how they finish. Brandon Lowe and Randy Arozarena can be potent st the plate. then the Rays will dip into the minors and sre expecting quality seasons from Wander Franco. Shane McClanahan and Shane Baz. Look for crafty left-hander Dalton Moats to burst on the scene to get big outs.

Yankees are a bit disappointing as they adding an aging Josh Donaldson to help out. However, three of the best right handed hitters in the league, Joey Gallo, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton  are in their lineup.

The Red Sox possess some individual players but fail to put it together collectively. Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers are dangerous with the bat and can field but the addition of Trevor Story appears to be underwhelming. This organization simply didn’t do enough in the off-season to make a difference in a tough division.

The Orioles are eyeing the future and must endure for now. Cedric Mullins, Trey Mancini and Ryan Mountcastle have already proven they can mash in the big leagues. with the bat. Now they eye the future to watch their prospects.

Projected Standings-  American League Central

  1. White Sox (94-68)
  2. Tigers (81-81)
  3. Royals (81-81)
  4. Twins (77-85)
  5. Guardians (67-95)

If the White Sox just had Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert that would be enough. But they  are loaded with Yoan Moncada, Jose Abreu and Tim Anderson to include. Pitching is premium for them with Lucas Giolito, Dylan Cease and Lance Lynn (he will miss a few weeks with a knee injury) The bullpen features Michael Kopech and Liam Hendriks to close the door.

The Tigers will come up short even with rookie sensations Spencer Torkelson and currently injured Riley Greene ready to burst on the scene. Adding free agents Jsvier Baez and Eduardo Rodriguez is a step towards respectability. They recently acquired outfielder Austin Meadows from the Rays.. Over the previous two years (in 162 games) he has 60 homers and 197 RBI’s.

The Royals added free agent former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke to their rotation to complement Brad Keller, Brady inger and Carlos Hernandez on the mound. The bats include Whit Merrifield and Salvador Perez. Potential Rookie of the Year is third baseman Bobby Witt, Jr. and MJ Melendez and Nick Pratto all will be needed to climb the standings. If Andrew Benentendi rebounds and Adalberto Mondesi can live up to his billing, The Royals  could climb in the standing.

The Twins are about to get out of the cellar. They signed Carlos Correa and traded for Sonny Gray. It is another year of”can Byron Buxton finally put it together?”

The Guardians have sunk. The offense is anemic and after Jose Ramirez and Franmil Reyes it falls off the wagon. Shane Beiber in the rotation will bring hope.

Projected Standings- American League West

Astros (90-72)
Angels (83-79)
Rangers (72-90)
Athletics (64-98)

Yes, the Astros lost Carlos Correa but they still possess a great nucleus of players which starts with Jose Altuve. Altuve can flat out hit the ball and slugger Yordan Alvarez mashes. Kyle Tucker will be  key. Then if Bregman returns to form, they are special again. On the hill they aren’t too shabby with Framber Valdez and Luis Garcia in the rotation. Verlander is the old man .

The Mariners are not a surprise team this year and could win this division. A good group of youngsters paired with some talented veterans make Seattle strong. Added through a trade with the Reds is Eugenio Suarez and Jesse Winker. Pitching depth might be the biggest concern. After starters Marco Gonzales and newcomer Robbie Ray, things get thin.

Every year the question is when will the Angels live up to their potential. Two of the best players in the planet. Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani return to with another year of experience.  Promising talent walks the dugout with Jo Adell, Brandon Marsh and Reid Detmers.

The Rangers look promising but there is not enough there to move them up in this division. They went out erly in the off-season and picked up Corey Seager and Mrcus Semien and later they got Jon Gray from Colorado. Then things stopped. Just not enough to compete.

The Athletics seemed to unload their entire team this winter. They traded off to the Blue Jays (Chapman) and Braves (Olson), and standout arms Sean Manaea and Chris Bassitt traded to the Padres and Mets, respectively. The team has pieces that will help it win games, with Frankie Montas at the front of that rotation. Prospect Cristian Pache will get to show his stuff and outfield will add Ramon Laureano.

Projected Standings- National League East

Braves (92-70)
Phillies (89-72)
Mets (86-76)
Marlins (80-82)
Nationals (73-89)

The Braves have a big target on their back and after losing Freddie Freeman to the Dodgers, they felt compelled to get Matt Olson to replace him. But can he take the place of a clubhouse leader? They return of host of good players and Ronald Acuna Jr is healthy and back to grab his spot back . The lineup also includes Ozie Albies, Dansby Swanson, Eddie Roario and Austin Riley. Those are usually potent weapons with the bat. From the mound, they have added Mike Soroka to go along with Max Fried as studs in the rotation. They could use a few more arms to establish themselves this season. That will have to come from a group including Tyler Matzek, AJ Minter, Huascar Ynoa , Ian Anderson and Charlie Morton. Kenley Jsnsen wad signed to center the bullpen.

projected standings

The Philllies have loaded their lineup with potent bats. They signed Nick Castellanos, and Kyle Schwarber to be added with JT Realmuto, Rhys Hopkins and Jean Segura along with perennial All=Star Bryce Harper. Some of the arms that will be counted upon will be Zach Wheeler and Aaron Nola. From the pen the bulk of the work will see Brad Hand, Jeurys Familia and Corey Knebel.

The Mets had no issues spending money this year as they signed Max Scherzer to a very large contract  to along side of Basssittt and de Grom (now injured and out for awhile) also they added Tajuan Walker and Carlos Carrrasco. The closer work will once again go tp Edwin Diaz.  On the offensive side of the game, the Mets have added Starling Marte and Mark Canha to to go along ith Francisco Lindor , Jeff Mc Neil and Pete Alonso and outfielder Brandon Nimmo. they will call upon Dominic Smith and Robinson Cano to handle the DH duties in 2022. This team looks good on paper and may end up winning the East.

Marlins have improved as they now have Avasail Garcia and Jorge Soler to thump the ball out of the park. Jazz Chisholm is back for year two and may become the face of the franchise if he continues to produce. Sandy Alcantara and Trevor Rogers can handle themselves on the mound with Pablo Lopez this year. If prospect Jesus Luzardo puts it together then this is a very solid pitching staff.

The Nationals don’t have much going for them except the best hitter in the National League is Juan Soto and he is in uniform for the Nationals. Others to look for improvement include Carter Kieboom and Kelbert Ruiz, their everyday catcher. Josiah Gray will be added to their rotation.

Projected Standings  National League Central

Brewers (89-73)

Cardinals (86-76)
Cubs (75-87)
Reds (72-90)
Pirates (66-96)

Last season, there wasn’t a better group of starting pitchers that what was in Milwaukee. The Brewers have Corbin Burnes who won the Cy Young award with an impressive 2.43 ERA. Also under the 3.oo ERA msrk was fellow starter Brandon Woodruff at 2.56. Freddy Peralta finished with a 2.81 ERA. Completing the rotation was Eric Lauer and Adrian Houser. Thr bullpen featured Devin Williams and Josh Hader. With the bat, the Brewers must get production form Willy Adames and Christian Yelich to keep the Cardinals at bay.

The Cardinals were impresive last year as they ran off a 17 game win streak to march into the playoffs. The outfield is the best defensive trio in the majors with Tyler O’Neill. Harrison Bader and Dylan Carlson. The bats also flourished at times but needs more consistency. The infield corners flex power with Paul Goldschmidt at first base and Nolan Arenado manning the hot corner.  Tommy Edmsan, one of several gold glove winners on this team, will leadoff and a second base. Waiting on the wings is  power prospect Nolan Gorman. Cstching finds Yadier Molina in his final season. He will guide a staff of veteran pitchers of  Adam Wainwright, Miles Mikolas and Steven Matz. Jack Flaherty starts on the DL. The bullpen will remain unproven for now.The newest acquisition is Albert Pujols to DH.

The Cubs are engaging in a rebuild/reload to try and keep the team competitive while also building up its young core again. Signing Seiya Suzuki, one of Japan’s biggest sluggers over the past six seasons, is a big addition as he’ll likely slot right into the middle of the lineup. Nick Madrigal and Nico Hoerner are a promising young middle-infield combo, who should be big parts of the team’s future. Patrick Wisdom and Frank Schwindel each had solid debut seasons in 2021, and return as established starters with Ian Happ and Willson Contreras. The rotation looks well-rounded with three experienced starters at the top in Marcus Stroman, Kyle Hendricks and Wade Miley.

The Reds are expected to be woeful again this year. They parted with Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suarez and thrn inked Tommy Pham, Donovan Solano, Colin Moran and traded for Mike Minor. Returning is bright spot Jonathan India at second base and Tyler Stephenson. Nick Senzel is looking to show improvement. On the hill, they should be decent snd will be led by Luis Castillo and Tyler Mahle. Hunter Greene is a hard throwing young hurler that will turn heads. Also, is the dean of the squad Joey Votto who is a star year in and year out. but points toward regression.

Bringing up the bottom is the Pirates. They will feature some young talent that is major league ready and be a fun team to follow with a ton of prospects to call upon.Bryan Reynolds is back and was a highlight last year and was an All Star. Also, Ke’Bryan  Hayes returns and joining him on the lefty side of the infield is top prospect Oneill Cruz. look for Mitch Keller to show impressive stuff from the mound and add to young stars Bryse Wilson and Roansy Contreras.

Projected Standings National League West

Dodgers (98-64)
Padres (90-72)
Giants (88-74)
Rockies (75-87)
Diamondbacks (71-91)

The Dodgers are really good. They are anchored by a soiid pitching staff led by Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw. Max Scherzer left for richer pastures but they still have Blake Trienen and Brusdar Graterol to shut down games. In the field and at bat they have Mookie Bettts, one of the best in the game, along with Max Muncy who can play several positions. Gavin Lux and Chris Taylor will be up-the-middle of the field. The big signing was Freddie Freeman at first base. Justin Turner is still productive for Los Angeles. Cody Bellinger has struggled.

The Padres are bound to be better. Every thing went wrong last year.  It’s time for the next step. Fernando Tatis, Jr. is a phenom, but he must stay healthy.  Msnny Machado flashed power and  good glove. On the hill they trot out Mike Clevinger and new acquisition Sean Manea to add to Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove and Blake Snell. This team could reach the top with a healthy season from the principle players.

The Giants overachieved last season. However, their rotation was really good with Logan Web, Anthony DeScalafani and Alex Wood. They added Rodon, Alex Cobb and Matthew Boyd to strengthen the core of the rotation. Buster Posey has retired and now it is time for Joey Bart to handle those duties. Look for Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt and Mike Yastrzemski to anchor the offense.

The Rockies are in a rebuild but went out and signed Kris Bryant to be a cornerstone of the team. His offense in Colorado should play well. CJ Cron will be able to use his power in the thin air of Denver to mash baseballs. This franchise is being built around Ryan McMahon and Brendan Rodgers. Antonio Senzatela and German Marquez had solid season on the mound last year. This could be a fun team to follow. Although they are not contenders.

projected standings

The Diamondbacks were very poor last season as they tied the Orioles for the worst record in baseball. Young players such as Carson Kelly, Daulton Varsho and Ketel Marte are faces of this team. Look for prospect Alek Thomas to get a shot this year. Zac Gallen will lead the rotation and Luke Weaver was relegated to the bullpen in 2022. Veterans Madison Bumgarner and Merrill Kelly fill out the pitching staff. Hopelessly in last place again.
